Facebook Privacy – They Read Our Messages!!

So its been a few weeks since i last wrote a real post, I've been really busy with my start-up and my other jobs and with trying to make money online (which i have alot of progress in that area). I've had enough playing with WP-O-Matic, i have some blogs running automatically with the content being taken from other sites, rewritten and posted on my blog but that's another post for another time. I've stated that my goal is to reach about 1000-2000 unique visitors a day at this moment there are about 6 daily unique visitors to kodkod.org so i've far away from that goal :) .

Ok about facebook, In the last couple of days I have been messing around with facebook trying to make a script that will message people i don't know, unfortunately facebook mobile nor facebook iPhone let you send messages to people that are not on your friends list (messing around with those versions of facebook is much easier). So I've started messing around and I've got to a goal where my script works!
I started sending messages to random people just to check my script with a link to my site (trying to promote it and get more traffic) when all of a sudden i came across the following error:
"Warning! You are engaging in behavior that may be considered annoying or abusive by other users.

Facebook's systems determined that you were going too fast when sending web addresses (URLs) through messages. You must significantly slow down. Further misuse of site features may result in a temporary block or your account being permanently disabled. For further information, please visit our FAQ page."
Followed by:
"Warning! You are engaging in behavior that may be considered annoying or abusive by other users.

Facebook's systems determined that you were going too fast when sending messages. You must significantly slow down. Further misuse of site features may result in a temporary block or your account being permanently disabled. For further information, please visit our FAQ page."
I logged in into my account manually and tried sending a test message and i got "Message Sent" without any problem..
So does facebook check your message contents ?

You'll decide.

More to come on this matter.

Animatronic Dinosaur Puppets Would Scare the Beeheyzeus Out of Me [Robots]

When I first saw this video, I thought this was the perfectest live 3D animation I've ever seen. Then I saw how they interacted with the fog and realized they're real. But animatronics can't be that perfect, can they?

Then my half-blinded eyes noticed something obvious: The human legs on the first dinosaur, which I guess is half-puppet, half-animatronics. The other two are completely animatronics, but if I saw any of these coming my way in the middle of a dark street, I would run the other way, screaming like a little girl. Which, incidentally, it's exactly how I scream all the time. [Dark Roasted Blend]

MacBook Pro Shocking the Crap Out of This Poor Reader [Broken]

Giz reader Nicholas has a little problem with his MacBook Pro: It's shocking the crap out of him. It "sparks right at the bottom center of the trackpad." But Apple Geniuses tell him it's actually just fine.

While it's possible Nicholas is just building up static and shocking himself, he says it happens "everywhere," and that when he used his friend's MacBook for a week, he went electrotherapy free. It's rare, but he's not entirely alone in his account.

The most often suggested solution is to stick to using the three-prong adapter, plugged into a grounded outlet. That won't help Nicholas so much, since he says it happens on battery power, too. Besides getting Apple to finally replace MacBook or wearing gloves, do guys have any possible solutions for Nicholas?

Wii Exercise Bike Would Be Perfect For Paperboy [Wii]

As one Kotaku commenter correctly pointed out, an exercise bike peripheral for the Wii is nothing without a remake of Paperboy.

That having been said, the Cyberbike is being developed by European publisher Bigben Interactive and comes bundled with some sort of lame treehugger game that requires you clean up the planet with the power of your eco-calves (don't worry, it also works with Mario Kart). The bike is slated for a January release in Europe, but pricing details have not been announced. Granted, it will most likely be cheaper than purchasing an actual exercise bike, but I can't imagine that some plastic, boxed Wii accessory will be able to handle the beating. Even professional stationary bikes break down on a fairly regular basis. [Kotaku]

Rumored ASUS’ Eee PC 1201N’s Dual Cored Specs Could Eat Other Netbooks Alive [Rumor]

If you believe the dual core Atom rumors, the ASUS Eee PC 1201N could knock out all other netbooks in performance.

The leaked 12-inch Eee PC 1201N apparently has Nvidia Ion graphics (GeForce 9400M chipset) along with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 Dual Core processor. That along with 3GB RAM, and a 320GB HD should make it one of the most powerful Atom netbooks around.

There is also the rumored Eee PC 1201HA which will have the same 12-inch chassis but is said to have less powerful guts with the standard Atom processor and chipset. Since both will be running Windows 7, don't expect to see these guys to get all official until October 22. [EeePC.IT via Liliputing]

Email is Dead? Oh Really? [Rants]

The WSJ is making the call—email on its way out. Dying. Dead. It's an interesting conclusion, derived from the fact that both growth and absolute numbers are on the side of social networking this year. But we disagree.

We're not going to pull out the old argument of "X isn't dead, because I'm still using X!" That's not so much an argument as a statement of entrenchment. However, this is the same kind of argument that was brought up ten years ago when instant messaging was new and everyone was hopping on that as the new communications medium. Did IM kill email? No. It's important as hell, don't get us wrong, but it works alongside email. And so will social networking.

You might someday send resumes or other important documents over Facebook and Twitter, but Email is never going to be "dead". In fact, with push email on your phone, it's basically as instant as any of the other networks.

Google Wave might also be pretty interesting when the people pimping it out call it what email would look like if it were invented today. It's too early to tell. But for it to be truly ubiquitous—and it has to be in order to replace email—it can't be hosted by just one company.

Think of it this way: if people are still using Fax machines—fucking FAX MACHINES—on a daily basis, there's no way that Email will be excised from our collective productivity streams. Not when it's this much more usable by the average person than faxes.

Or you can think of it this way. What information do you use to sign up for instant messaging and social networks? Your what address? [WSJ]

Why I Think E-Ink Readers Are Dumb [Rant]

The future of media isn't on paper. And a device just dedicated to replicating dead trees is a waste of time. Let me show you why electronic ink's virtues don't matter as much as its weaknesses do.

Click through the gallery for a blow-by-blow of e-ink's strengths and failures:

E-ink is a great digital tool for emulating what books were. But a horse with rollershoes can't keep up with the automobile, so why should we expect a digital book to keep up with modern media habits?

I fell in love with the Kindle last year, but I think you're a fool to buy one now—let alone any of its lesser competitors—when so much new technology is about to hit over the next six months. I'm giving up on it. I am waiting for a tablet. Same size, different priorities. And unless you love novels and non-fiction more than TV, movies, cookbooks and glossy magazines all together, you should, too. [Fantastic rendering above by Rob Beschizza]

Large Insect Crashes Air Force Missile Truck [Nuclear Weapons]

Surprisingly, this is not the first time a US Air Force missile truck has crashed this year. However, it's probably the first time they should think about calling SHIELD or Godzilla to fight the villian behind it: "A large insect."

According to the USAF, the driver lost control of the truck because a "large insect" landed on the driver's back. The truck was hauling Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile parts from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Fortunately—and unlike other recent incidents that originated at the Minot Air Force base—the crash didn't involve any nuclear warheads. Or an attack by Mothra, for that matter. [Danger Room]

Reports: Snow Leopard Bug Eats User Accounts Whole [Bugs]

A small but understandably very upset group of people are reporting a bug in Snow Leopard that totally wipes out account data without warning. The consensus is that it has something to do with guest accounts: the data loss seems to come directly after using one, when trying to log back into a regular account.

Documentation on the problem is still thin, and Apple hasn't issued any kind of response, but until this gets sussed out, you should probably cut back on the guest logins, lest you lose everything you've ever saved to your Mac, ever. Any new operating system has bugs, but if real—and it's starting to look that way—this one is pretty atrocious.

We'll keep an eye on this, since the more exposure it gets, the more likely people are to come forward with their own personal horror stories. Post 'em if you got 'em, in the comments. [ITWire via Neowin]
